I recently asked Ann since this was her first Saddlebred, her thoughts on trailriding a Saddlebred. I want to share her comments with you all:
“Oh there is nothing like a Saddlebred on the trail ---- swift and savvy.”
“I'd like to see more of them on the trail --- they just eat up the miles. His gaits are at the 100% smooth level. I do not feel his feet hitting the ground. The trainer who worked with him this past summer loved him--he needed a refresher course in "who is the real boss?" and also there were a few gaps to fill in his education. My old (34 yrs) old horse is a Saddlebred/Arab cross--and he was a remarkable riding /driving horse--- logging thousands of miles in the NEHTA circuit. These Saddlebreds can do it all -- with class and manners, lovely gifts from the gods who allow us to ride and own (or be owned by) these steeds in our lifetime.” |
