Lady's Foxy Gold aka "Hope" made her show debut at the ASAM show at Skowhegan Maine in the American Saddlebred, In Hand 2 and under class, and then came back into the championship for all ages to be 4th of 5. Both classes were sponsored by Horses Forever, an equine rescue headquartered in Colorado having a number of available horses in the New England area.
"Hope" entered the ring at a full, floating trot, tail flagged over her back, snorting, blowing and trotting on air. She drew quite a bit of attention as all watched her make her pass around the ring! In fact she cleaned out the Secretary's booth as they all rushed to see her.
She was 3rd of 3 in the qualifying class and 4th of 5 in the Championship.
"Hope's" story is one of Hope! At 17 months of age she found herself alone, at a horse auction in Iowa. Enter, Therese Swift, a foster mom for Horses Forever in Iowa. Horses Forever paid $10 to save this little bedraggled girl and Therese took her home to start her on her new life. (Since her day at the auction house many dollars have been spent on a some physical issues BUT it has been well worth the work.)
Almost immediately, Lynn Harrington, of Denmark, Maine, heard about this little girl and applied to adopt her from Horses Forever.
By the time "Hope" left Iowa on her final journey to her forever home she had gained weight, was up-to-date on her vaccinations and had pretty feet, again. She traveled well on her long journey, close to the Canadian border, and came down the ramp at a lovely, weather-gray barn in Denmark, Maine - her forever home.
This is an all too common story these days but one that needs to be told, over and over again, with special thanks to Marge Mullen, the Horses Forever representative in New England, Therese Swift who made all this possible and Lynn Harrington for her dedication to a very special girl - "Hope"
